Pharaoh is a title that was given during ancient Egyptian times to the rulers who ruled over the land. It is the Greek translation of the Egyptian word per-aa which means "great house" and refers to the palace of the king. Pharaohs were not just political leaders, but also religious figures, seen as the intermediaries between the gods and the people. Their role was to maintain order and balance in the universe and preserve Ma'at, the concept of harmony, truth, and justice. The title Pharaoh was used from the beginning of the 18th Dynasty in 1570 BCE until the end of the Ptolemaic Dynasty in 30 BCE. The most famous pharaohs include King Tutankhamun, Ramses II, and Hatshepsut.
